Dr. Safiullah Assigned Key Financial Role in Telangana Waqf Board

Hyderabad: The Telangana Minorities Welfare Department has authorized Dr. Mohammed Safiullah, Deputy Secretary (Non-Cadre) of TG GENCO and Director of the Telangana Urdu Academy, to sign cheques for the Telangana State Waqf Board. The authorization covers honorarium payments for Imams and Mouzans for June, July, and August 2025, as well as employee salaries for August 2025.

The order, issued under Memo No. 2973/Estt-II/2024 dated 26.09.2025, follows a request from Waqf Board Chairman Syed Azmathullah Hussaini. Secretary to Government B. Shafiullah confirmed the move, stating that Dr. Safiullah’s role is to ensure timely disbursement of salaries and honorarium.

Officials said the Chairman will seek approval from Minister Adluri Laxman Kumar to designate Dr. Safiullah as an Authorized Officer. Sources also noted he may soon take additional charge of the Telangana Minorities Study Circle, Career Counselling Centre, and the State Minorities Finance Corporation.

Dr. Safiullah brings administrative experience through his deputation from TG GENCO and service at the Urdu Academy. His familiarity with both government systems and minority welfare initiatives positions him to ensure efficiency and accountability in Waqf Board operations.

The move is viewed as part of broader efforts to streamline the functioning of the Waqf Board. By assigning responsibilities to an experienced officer, the department aims to strengthen transparency, maintain timely payments, and uphold the welfare of employees and religious leaders connected with the Board.

Officials stressed that this authorization applies only for the specified months and forms part of routine administrative measures. Meanwhile, the pending writ appeal of former CEO Mohd Asadullah in the High Court is expected to influence the board’s future leadership.
