Book Honours Life and Legacy of Urdu Journalist Mohammad Muslim

New Delhi: A new book celebrating the life and work of legendary Urdu journalist Mohammad Muslim (1920–1986) has been released under the title “Mohammad Muslim – A Great Human, A Fearless Journalist”. Compiled by senior journalist Javed Akhtar, the 320-page volume brings together Muslim Sahib’s writings along with reflections from more than forty eminent personalities.

Published by MMI Publications, New Delhi, and priced at ₹350, the book includes a selection of Mohammad Muslim’s editorials and essays, as well as contributions from intellectuals, journalists, and community leaders who admired him. It will soon be available on Flipkart and Amazon.

Mohammad Muslim is remembered as one of independent India’s most principled Urdu journalists, whose commitment to truth and integrity won him respect across political and social circles. Former Prime Minister I.K. Gujral recalled his “intelligence, wit, and fearless simplicity.” Veteran journalist Kuldip Nayar wrote that Muslim Sahib was not only principled but “he himself was a principle.”

Former AMU Vice-Chancellor Syed Hamid praised his prose as thoughtful and compassionate, while Syed Shahabuddin noted that his contributions would be written “in golden words” in the history of Indian Muslims.

In the foreword, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind , President, Syed Sadatullah Husaini highlighted the book’s relevance for today’s journalists and community leaders, saying many lessons from his life remain essential in current times.

Reflecting on his effort, compiler Javed Akhtar said the book aims to inspire younger generations with Mohammad Muslim’s model of fearless journalism and moral clarity.
