Srinagar / New Delhi— Jammu and Kashmir BJP leader Jahanzaib Sirwal has threatened to resign from the party following controversial remarks made by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath about the recent violence in Bareilly linked to “I Love Muhammad” posters, reported the Scroll.
Sirwal described Adityanath’s comments as “unacceptable” and accused the Uttar Pradesh Police of exhibiting a “vindictive” stance towards the Muslim community. He argued that those remarks contradict Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas” (support of all, development for all, trust of all).
“What began as a simple act of faith has been met with FIRs, detentions and inflammatory rhetoric — including threats of ‘denting and painting’ and severe punishments that future generations will remember,” Sirwal said, citing PTI. He insisted that any inquiry into the matter must hold all wrongdoers accountable, not target a single community.
Sirwal warned that unless the BJP acts decisively to rebuild Muslims’ confidence, he would feel compelled to step down. He asserted that no chief minister has the right to “threaten or intimidate” a community into silence.
Earlier, Adityanath had vowed that those involved in the Bareilly clashes would face “denting and painting,” saying they would pay a price “that future generations will remember.” The violence broke out on September 26, when a group carrying “I Love Muhammad” posters clashed with police outside a mosque, leading to the arrest of at least 72 persons.
