Coimbatore: The Coimbatore unit of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) has submitted a memorandum to the District Collector demanding the establishment of a nationalised bank branch in Karumbukkadai. The delegation, led by JIH Coimbatore President Moulavi A. Abdul Hameed, said that residents of the area face ongoing hardship due to the absence of basic banking facilities.
Karumbukkadai is a busy residential and commercial hub with a large population of small traders, workers, and senior citizens. Despite its economic activity, it lacks a single nationalised bank branch. Residents are forced to travel long distances to nearby localities for simple transactions, withdrawals, or government-related banking services.
The JIH delegation highlighted that the absence of formal banking services limits financial inclusion and affects the daily lives of low-income residents. They urged the district administration to take up the matter with nationalised banks and facilitate the opening of a new branch at the earliest.
“The people of Karumbukkadai deserve equal access to public financial infrastructure,” said Moulavi Hameed. He stressed that establishing a bank in the locality would help promote secure transactions, savings, and government welfare schemes.
Community leaders present at the meeting echoed the demand, saying the move would serve both residents and small businesses. The memorandum described the request as a step toward equitable development and inclusive governance in Coimbatore.
