Owaisi Says Bihar’s 19% Muslims Lack Political Leadership Ahead of Elections

Patna: AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has called out the absence of political leadership for Muslims in Bihar, a community forming nearly one-fifth of the state’s population. Speaking at a rally in Darbhanga ahead of the 2025 Assembly elections, Owaisi said that while communities like Yadavs, Paswans, and Thakurs have strong political figures, the 19 percent Muslim population remains without representation.

He accused opposition leader Tejashwi Yadav and the Rashtriya Janata Dal of sidelining Muslim voices by refusing to engage with AIMIM. Owaisi warned that Tejashwi’s “arrogance” and “immaturity” would weaken the opposition’s chances against the BJP-JD(U) alliance in the coming polls.

Owaisi also criticized the broader political establishment for underrepresenting Muslims at the national level. He said that based on their share in India’s population, there should have been at least 50 to 55 Muslim MPs in Parliament. “If that were the case, could Prime Minister Modi have brought the Waqf Amendment Act?” he asked.

The AIMIM is preparing to contest more seats this time, with a focus on Bihar’s Seemanchal region, which has a high Muslim population. In the 2020 elections, the party won five Assembly seats, though four of its legislators later joined the RJD.

Owaisi’s remarks highlight the growing debate over Muslim political representation in Bihar as the state gears up for another tight electoral contest.
