Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Decries Police Crackdown in Uttar Pradesh, Warns of Disenfranchisement in Bihar, and Calls for Global Action on Gaza

New Delhi: Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) has voiced deep concern over the rising police excesses against Muslims in Uttar Pradesh, the mass voter deletions in Bihar, and the ongoing genocide in Gaza. Speaking at the monthly JIH Press Conference, Nadeem Khan of the Association for Protection of Civil Rights said that the Uttar Pradesh government’s response to the peaceful “I Love Muhammad ﷺ” campaign marked a collapse of lawful governance. He reported that 21 FIRs had been filed across India implicating 1,324 Muslims, including minors, for peaceful expressions of faith. Ten FIRs were lodged in Bareilly alone.

Khan described the crackdown as a deliberate attempt to criminalize Muslim devotion, with cases filed under unrelated charges such as “unlawful assembly.” He urged the withdrawal of politically motivated FIRs, release of detainees, and judicial accountability for police misconduct. “Turning love for the Prophet into an offense is an assault on the Constitution,” he said.

JIH Vice President Malik Moatasim Khan raised alarm over the deletion of nearly 47 lakh names from Bihar’s voter rolls during the Special Intensive Revision. He warned that the process risked disenfranchising poor and Muslim voters, especially in Seemanchal districts like Kishanganj and Purnia, calling it “demographic engineering through paperwork.”

On Gaza, JIH Vice President Prof. Salim Engineer condemned Israel’s attacks on civilians and humanitarian missions. He demanded international sanctions, ICC trials for Israeli leaders, and a firm stance from India in support of Palestine. “Silence in the face of genocide is complicity,” he said.
