New Delhi: Citizens for Justice and Peace (CJP) has lodged a complaint with the National Commission for Minorities (NCM) over a hate campaign that labels Bengali Muslims as “infiltrators” and “illegal immigrants.” The organization urged the NCM to investigate and act against those promoting such narratives through social media and public platforms.
The complaint highlights how Bengali-speaking Muslims, especially in Assam and West Bengal, are being vilified and portrayed as threats to the nation’s security and demography. CJP stated that this rhetoric fuels communal polarization and fosters hostility against a vulnerable minority.
According to the complaint, the hate campaign includes videos, online posts, and speeches that call for the disenfranchisement and deportation of Bengali Muslims. CJP argued that such content violates constitutional rights guaranteeing equality before law and freedom from discrimination.
The organization urged the NCM to take action under relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology Act to curb the spread of hate speech. It also called for steps to ensure accountability for those inciting communal hatred through digital and political platforms.
CJP’s intervention comes amid growing concern over the normalization of hate speech against Muslims in the public sphere. The group said that institutional response is essential to protect citizens’ rights and maintain communal harmony.
