Bareilly Muslim Councillor’s Showroom Sealed Without Notice

Bareilly: The Bareilly Municipal Corporation has sealed the showroom of a Muslim councillor from the Samajwadi Party who is undergoing treatment for cancer. The councillor has accused officials of acting without prior notice or legal justification, calling the move politically and communally motivated.

According to the councillor, the sealing was carried out abruptly while he was receiving medical care. He claimed that no official order, notice, or opportunity to respond was provided, which violates standard municipal procedure. He alleged selective targeting, pointing out that other establishments facing similar civic issues were left untouched.

Local residents gathered near the site in protest, expressing anger over what they described as harassment of an elected public representative. Opposition leaders also criticized the action, accusing the authorities of bias against a minority member of the council. Civil rights groups in Bareilly have urged a transparent inquiry into the matter and demanded that the showroom be reopened until due legal process is followed.

The councillor has approached higher authorities to challenge the order and intends to pursue legal remedies. The municipal administration has not yet issued an official statement explaining the grounds for its decision.

The incident has drawn attention to concerns about fairness in local governance and the treatment of minority representatives in public institutions.
