“Be the Change”: Jamia Hamdard’s Mission for a Clean, Smoke-Free, Plastic-Free Campus

New Delhi: In a remarkable step towards environmental consciousness and civic responsibility, Jamia Hamdard launched a Cleanliness Drive under the dynamic leadership of Registrar Col. Tahir Mustafa, with active participation from Prof. Sohrab, Prof. Javed, other faculty members, and enthusiastic students and NSS volunteers.

The initiative, part of the university’s broader “Mission Green Campus”, focuses on promoting a no-smoke, no-littering, and no-plastic-use environment across the campus. It aims to instill a sense of collective responsibility and sustainable living among the university community.

During the drive, Col. Tahir Mustafa highlighted the importance of maintaining cleanliness and hygiene as a shared duty. He emphasized that good health has always been the core concern of Hamdard’s philosophy, reflecting the vision of its revered founder. Addressing the participants, he remarked:

“We should not always wait for others or government agencies to clean our surroundings. As responsible citizens, it is our duty to keep our environment clean and hygienic. Cleanliness should not be a temporary effort but a regular part of our lives.”

The campaign witnessed enthusiastic participation, with faculty members and NSS volunteers cleaning different zones of the campus, planting saplings, collecting waste, and spreading awareness about environmental protection. Students also took a pledge to avoid plastic use and promote eco-friendly alternatives in daily life.

This drive reinforced Jamia Hamdard’s commitment to a healthy, green, and sustainable campus, sending out a strong message that true change begins from within. It also aimed to inspire the community beyond campus—encouraging citizens across Delhi and the nation to take ownership of their surroundings.

The Cleanliness Drive at Jamia Hamdard stands as a shining example of how educational institutions can lead by example in building a cleaner, greener, and more responsible India.
