New Delhi: The Students’ Federation of India (SFI) has condemned what it called a “brutal attack” on students of the English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU) in Hyderabad during a pro-Palestine event. The organisation accused members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and the Hyderabad Police of jointly assaulting students who gathered to express solidarity with Palestinians.
The incident took place during a student union programme that opposed Israel’s ongoing military offensive in Gaza. According to SFI, ABVP activists entered the venue and attacked participants, while the police allegedly supported them instead of ensuring campus safety. The student body described the violence as a direct assault on freedom of expression and democratic space within universities.
In a statement, SFI’s Central Executive Committee demanded strict legal action against the perpetrators. It also called on the Telangana government to clarify its position on the Israel-Palestine conflict and explain the police’s alleged collaboration with right-wing groups.
SFI leaders Adarsh M. Saji, President, and Srijan Bhattacharyya, General Secretary, announced a nationwide protest campaign from October 8 to 15. The campaign will include 18,000 demonstrations in solidarity with Palestine, honouring the 18,000 children killed in Gaza.
The organisation said it will continue to defend students’ rights and oppose communal forces attempting to suppress dissent in educational institutions.
