Assam Congress Files FIRs Against CM Himanta Biswa Sarma for Derogatory Remarks on Men

Guwahati: The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee has filed multiple FIRs across the state against Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for his alleged derogatory remarks about men during a recent public address. The party accused the Chief Minister of making statements that were offensive, gender-insensitive, and unbecoming of a constitutional officeholder.

According to Congress representatives, the remarks stereotyped men in a negative light and contributed to a culture of insensitivity in public discourse. FIRs were lodged in several districts under sections related to defamation, promoting enmity, and public mischief. Party leaders stated that the Chief Minister’s words insulted citizens and undermined the dignity of the position he holds.

The Congress has demanded a public apology and legal accountability for what it described as irresponsible behavior. Leaders also said that such comments reflect a growing lack of respect in political speech and an erosion of accountability among elected officials.

While the BJP has not issued an official response, political observers view the development as part of the ongoing rivalry between the ruling BJP and the opposition Congress in Assam. The controversy has sparked discussions on the need for higher standards of conduct among public representatives and greater sensitivity in addressing social and gender-related issues in political platforms.
