Taliban Minister Asserts No Terrorist Presence in Afghanistan During India Visit

New Delhi: Afghanistan’s Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi has declared that no terrorist organization operates from Afghan soil. Speaking during his first official visit to India, Muttaqi said that “not an inch of land” in Afghanistan is under the control of groups such as Lashkar-e-Taiba or Jaish-e-Mohammad. His statement aimed to assure regional governments of Afghanistan’s stability under Taliban rule.

Muttaqi’s visit came as India decided to restore full diplomatic relations with Afghanistan. The Indian government announced plans to upgrade its Technical Mission in Kabul into a full embassy. This step indicates New Delhi’s willingness to engage directly with the Taliban administration after maintaining limited contact since its 2021 takeover.

At a press briefing in New Delhi, Muttaqi said Afghanistan’s territory will not be used to threaten any country. He emphasized that the Taliban is committed to maintaining peace and good relations with neighbors. His remarks followed ongoing concerns from several countries about the presence of extremist elements and the treatment of minorities under the current regime.

Analysts view this visit as part of the Taliban’s diplomatic campaign to gain broader international recognition and economic cooperation. For India, the move reflects an interest in balancing humanitarian engagement with regional security priorities. The visit also signals a gradual normalization of relations between the two nations after years of uncertainty.
