Hyderabad: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president Asaduddin Owaisi has strongly criticised Union Home Minister Amit Shah for his remarks on Muslim population growth and alleged infiltration. Owaisi said Shah was spreading misinformation and communal fear ahead of elections.
Owaisi accused Shah of using “flawed mathematics” to exaggerate Muslim population trends. He cited government data showing that the Muslim fertility rate in India has been steadily declining for decades. He said there is no truth to the claim that Muslims will outnumber Hindus. “These false projections are meant to divide and frighten,” he stated.
Responding to Shah’s comments on infiltration, Owaisi demanded the release of verifiable data. He said such allegations unfairly stigmatize Indian Muslims and distract from governance failures. “If there is evidence, make it public. Stop using Indian Muslims as scapegoats,” he said.
Owaisi also accused the BJP of deploying communal rhetoric to polarize voters. He said the government should focus on employment, inflation, and justice instead of using religion to win elections. Reaffirming his party’s stance, he said all Indians are equal citizens under the Constitution and warned that divisive politics damages national unity.
His remarks have resonated with several civil rights groups who have long warned against the misuse of demographic narratives to target minorities. Political observers say the exchange reflects growing tensions as national elections approach.
