UDF Slams Amit Shah for Remarks on Muslim Population Growth

Thiruvananthapuram: The United Democratic Front (UDF) in Kerala has condemned Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s recent remarks linking Muslim population growth to demographic imbalance and infiltration concerns. The alliance called his statement “unacceptable” and accused him of deliberately targeting a particular community for political gain.

In a public statement, the UDF said that population growth is a national issue and should not be communalized. They added that attempts to portray Muslims as a demographic threat weaken India’s secular foundations and threaten social harmony. The alliance urged national leaders to act responsibly when addressing sensitive social and demographic issues.

The UDF alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is using divisive rhetoric to polarize voters ahead of elections. Leaders within the alliance said that such remarks deepen mistrust between communities and distract from governance and development challenges.

Political analysts in Kerala observed that Shah’s comments were met with resistance across opposition parties, many of whom warned against framing demographic trends in communal terms. The UDF reiterated its commitment to protecting India’s pluralism and said political discourse should reflect unity rather than division.

The alliance called on citizens and policymakers to rely on data-driven discussions instead of fear-based narratives. They stated that social cohesion is vital for India’s progress and that leaders must focus on inclusive growth and constitutional principles.
