New Delhi: Congress MP Jairam Ramesh has sharply criticized Union Home Minister Amit Shah over his comments linking the rise in Muslim population to infiltration. Ramesh accused Shah of spreading misinformation and using communal narratives to divide voters ahead of elections.
In a post addressing Shah’s statements, Ramesh called him an “indigenously developed Weapon of Mass Disinformation” and a “Weapon of Intimidatory Mass Polarisation.” He said the Home Minister’s remarks were part of a larger pattern of deliberate distortion aimed at creating fear and mistrust between communities.
The Congress leader asserted that Shah’s statements have no basis in data and distract from pressing issues such as unemployment and inflation. He added that such rhetoric harms India’s democratic fabric and threatens social unity.
The controversy arose after Shah suggested that unchecked growth of the Muslim population could lead to demographic imbalance and infiltration. His remarks drew criticism from several opposition parties, who accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of using communal polarization for political advantage.
Ramesh’s remarks reflect the Congress party’s broader strategy to challenge what it calls the BJP’s divisive politics. He reiterated that India’s strength lies in its diversity and urged citizens to reject communal propaganda.
