Hyderabad: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) President Asaduddin Owaisi has made it clear that his party will not back either the Congress or the Bharatiya Janata Party in the upcoming Jubilee Hills Assembly by-election. The by-poll was necessitated by the death of sitting BRS MLA Maganti Gopinath in June.
Speaking to reporters in Hyderabad, Owaisi said both the Congress and BJP thrive on communal polarization and have failed to address the needs of Hyderabad’s marginalized residents. He called the two parties “two sides of the same coin,” reiterating AIMIM’s commitment to independent politics focused on justice, inclusivity, and development for the city’s underrepresented communities.
Owaisi’s statement signals AIMIM’s intent to continue strengthening its presence in urban Telangana without aligning with larger national parties. The Jubilee Hills constituency, a mix of affluent neighborhoods and working-class pockets, has long been a politically active seat in Hyderabad’s landscape.
AIMIM leaders are expected to focus their campaign on local issues such as civic infrastructure, education, and minority welfare. Political observers say the by-election outcome will test the appeal of AIMIM’s independent approach at a time when state politics is increasingly dominated by Congress-BRS rivalry.
With polling likely to be held later this month or in early November, the by-election has drawn close attention from both local and national political circles.
