Aligarh: Prof. M. J. Warsi, a linguist and former Chairperson of the Department of Linguistics, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), and President of the Linguistic Society of India, was honoured by the Governor of Punjab, Gulab Chand Kataria, during the 11th All India Conference of Linguistics and Folklore (AICLF) held at Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana.
Prof. Warsi also delivered the keynote address on “The Role of Folklore, Language and Education in Nation Building with Reference to NEP-2020” during the inaugural session of the conference, where he emphasised the intrinsic link between language, culture, and education in shaping a progressive society.
Widely admired for his academic integrity, eloquence, and innovative teaching, Prof. Warsi has left an indelible mark on linguistic scholarship.
Recipient of several prestigious honours including the James McLeod Faculty Award (2012), Colin P. Masica Award (2024), and M. B. Emeneau Scholar of Excellence Award (2024), Prof. Warsi continues to be a beacon of academic excellence.
