Unlocking The Pages of Insight: GIO Symposium Explores the Art and Impact of Reading Books

Wimberly Gunj, Andamans, Dec. 29: In an effort to foster a love for literature and knowledge, the Girls Islamic Organization’s Andaman Unit organized a thought-provoking symposium titled “Why Should We Read?” on Monday. The event, held at Manfaul Islam Madrasa Hall, Wimberly Gunj, South Andaman, brought together intellectuals, educators, and avid readers to explore and explain the multifaceted significance of reading in the contemporary world.

The symposium, under the guidance of President JIH-Andaman M.K. Mohammed, began with an introductory presentation by Ashifa Yunus, President of GIO Andaman Unit. She emphasized the organization’s dedication to fostering education and empowerment among young women.

The Vice President of JIH-Andaman K.P. Mohd Yunus, emphasized why it is necessary to connect to books, particularly the Quran, adding that the ability to express oneself is the greatest boon bestowed upon humans. He encouraged the young audience to make reading a habit.

Mrs. Sajitha N.V., Lecturer, Dept. of Electrical Engineering at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Institute of Technology, Port Blair, highlighted the benefits of reading in an amazing PowerPoint presentation, emphasizing the importance of women reading to set an example for their children. She went on to remark that reading broadens one’s perspective and develops empathy and vocabulary.

Mujeeb Rehman, Manager, Crescent Senior Secondary School and Ex-President, HumaneTouch; Fathima, Secretary, Women’s Wing (Nayapuram Halqa); Dr. Musfira and Nadeera, members of the GIO; and Ahmed Yaseen, a Crescent Senior Secondary School student, were among other speakers who shared their experiences with books.

This symposium proved to be a resounding success, sparking enthusiasm for literature and learning. As the event concluded, it left a lasting impression on attendees, reinforcing the belief that reading is not just a skill but a gateway to enlightenment and empowerment for individuals and communities alike.
