Pharmacy Block & Ilāj bi’l-Tadbīr Unit open at RRIUM Chennai

Chennai, Jan. 8: At the Regional Research Institute of Unani Medicine (RRIUM), Chennai, Dr. Munjpara Mahendrabhai Kalubhai, Minister of State for Ayush and Women & Child Development, Government of India, on Sunday dedicated a Pharmacy Block and an Ilāj bi’l-Tadbīr (Regimental Therapy) Unit created by the Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine (CCRUM), Ministry of Ayush.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Munjpara said India is the global leader in Unani medicine because it has the largest network of academic, scientific, and medical facilities. He went on to say that the people’s healthcare needs would be met by the new facilities furnished with cutting-edge medical equipment.

In his welcome speech, Dr. N. Zaheer Ahmed, Director General of CCRUM, stated that since July 6, 1979, the RRIUM in Chennai has been a premier institution of CCRUM, offering high-quality medical services in addition to multidisciplinary research in Unani medicine.

Along with its digital version, the dignitaries also unveiled a publication titled Regional Research Institute of Unani Medicine, Chennai: Activities and Achievements, which provides a detailed overview of the institute’s goals, infrastructure, and brief history. It details the institute’s research and development accomplishments in the areas of clinical research, public health initiatives, surveying and cultivating medicinal plants, standardizing and quality-controlling Unani drugs, and more. A video film depicting the impressive infrastructure and diverse healthcare facilities of the institute was also released.

The two facilities’ inauguration plaques were unveiled in the august presence of Thiru. Idream R. Murthy, MLA from Royapuram, and Dr. Kalanidhi Veeraswamy, MP from Chennai North.

Other dignitaries who graced the event include officials from Chennai-based Central Council for Research in Siddha, National Institute of Siddha, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, ICMR-National Institute for Research in Tuberculosis, Government Unani Medical College, Government Siddha Medical College, Government Yoga & Naturopathy Medical College, Homoeopathy Research Institute for Disabilities, Centre for Technology in Traditional Medicine Anna University, Justice Basheer Ahmed Sayeed College for Women, Sri Sairam Siddha Medical College, University of Madras, State Licensing Authority for ISM, Dr MGR Medical University, M.V Diabetes Research Centre, and National Institute of Unani Medicine, Bengaluru.
