To observe World Arabic Language Day, which is celebrated every year on December 18, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the King Salman Global Academy for Arabic Language (KSGAAL) held an event “Arabic: The Language of Poetry and Arts” at the OIC headquarters in Jeddah on Sunday.
The OIC Secretary-General, Hissein Brahim Taha, emphasized in his speech the importance of Arabic, the language of the Noble Quran, as a vital component of Islamic prayer and devotion. He also underlined the fact that Arabic is one of the world’s oldest, most widely spoken, and used languages. The Secretary-General’s remarks emphasized Arabic’s relevance in the Islamic religion and in the global environment.
It is to recall that during the 49th Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) held in Nouakchott, Mauritania last March, the OIC adopted a ministerial resolution regarding the celebration of World Arabic Language Day. This resolution was adopted with the cooperation and initiative of Saudi Arabia to support the presence of the Arabic language in regional and international forums.
He underscored the collaboration on the celebration of Arabic language between KSGAAL and the OIC General Secretariat. This partnership demonstrates the OIC’s dedication to collaborating with Saudi Arabian and Member State stakeholders who seek to grant the language the respect it so richly merits. He underlined once more how this collaboration has produced a variety of initiatives and events, such as training sessions for recipients from the Member States.
