SIO Slams Varanasi Court’s Decision as Blatant Injustice

New Delhi, Feb. 1: On Wednesday, Varanasi District Court allowed Hindus to offer prayers inside the Vyas Ka Tehkhana (the sealed basement area) of the Gyanvapi Masjid complex. The court also directed the district administration to make arrangements to start the puja within seven days.

In response to this court order, SIO India has issued a poster statement reading, ‘The recent judgment by the Varanasi Court is nothing but blatant injustice.’

“Disregarding provisions of Place of Worship (Special Provisions) Act, 1991, which prohibits the conversion of religious worship places, the court seems to be following the majoritarian sentiment rather than the law of the land,” SIO said.

“It is evident from the developments around Gyanvapi Masjid that the government machinery, after setting a dangerous precedent in the Babri issue, is trying to create similar scenarios across the country. We appeal to all people believing in justice and democracy to come forward and raise their voices against these orchestrated plots to fan the flames of anti-Muslim communal polarization,” it added.
