Hyderabad, March 8: Moulana Syed Ghulam Afzal Biyabani, Sajjada Nasheen of Dargah Hazrat Afzal Biyabani, Kazipet, has been unanimously elected chairman of newly-constituted Telangana State Haj Committee.
Fourteen out of 15 members of the committee attended the meeting.
Wakf Board chairman Syed Azmatullah Hussaini, who is also a member of Haj Committee, proposed the name of Moulana Biyabani and it was seconded by MLA Jaffar Hussain Meraj. His election was a mere formality as the Congress government had already decided to appoint him as chairman.
Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi, who was nominated member of Haj Committee in MP category, did not attend the meeting.
Thanking the members of Haj Committee for unanimously electing him, Afzal Biyabani assured that he would do his best to serve the Haj pilgrims. He said he would try to make best possible arrangements for the pilgrims at Haj camp, ensure their vaccination and also make necessary arrangements at Hyderabad Airport.
Hyderabad is an embarkation point for Haj pilgrims not only from Telangana but also pilgrims from parts of neighbouring Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.
Afzal Biyabani thanked Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for giving him an opportunity to serve Haj pilgrims. He earlier served as chairman of Andhra Pradesh Wakf Board, member National Wakf Council and member Central Haj Committee.
Earlier, the state government reconstituted the Haj Committee. Asaduddin Owaisi and Jaffar Hussain Meraj were appointed members in MP and MLA categories respectively.
The other members appointed by the government are Mohammed Sharfuddin, Co-option Member, MPP, Gundala, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district, Khaja Sana, corporator, Ramagundam Municipal Corporation, Peddapalli district, Mohammed Mujeebuddin, Co-option Member, MPP, Shameerpet, Rangareddy district, Ilyas Ahmed Hamid Qasmi of Nirmal district, Syed Ehsanuddin of Nalgonda district and Sayed Taqui Raziuddin of Hyderabad, Faimeeda Begum, a corporator from Vikarabad district, Mohammed Layeeq of Rangareddy district, Mohammed Yousuf of Vikarabad district, Syed Azhar Ali of Hyderabad and Syed Ghulam Afzal Biyabani.
Wakf Board chairman and Haj Committee executive officer are the other members.
