Hyderabad, March 8: Leaving behind the bitterness of the Assembly election campaign, Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) president Asaduddin Owaisi on Friday decided to work together for the development of Hyderabad.
For the first time after Revanth Reddy became the Chief Minister, the two leaders shared a public platform.
The CM and Hyderabad MP were seen together at the inauguration of the Telangana Minorities Residential School and Junior College in Ibrahimbagh of Karwan constituency.
Owaisi had laid the foundation stone for the school and junior college in December 2020 and the project has been completed at a cost of Rs. 20 crore. It has two towers with G+4 floors with 28 classrooms, 80000 sq.ft built-up area, and an open play area. At least 500 students have taken admission and the school is scheduled to start classes in June 2024.
The two leaders also together laid the foundation stone for Hyderabad Metro Rail in the old city.
They shared bonhomie at the event held in Falaknuma, attended by leaders of both the parties including former minister and government advisor Mohammed Ali Shabbir.
While Owaisi assured all support to the Congress government for development works, the Chief Minister promised to take responsibility for development of the old city.
Speaking in Urdu, Revanth Reddy described the old city as the original Hyderabad. He promised to provide required funds for various infrastructure projects.
Stating that politics and development are different, the Chief Minister said the support of MIM is required to ensure the city’s overall development.
The 5.5 km Metro line will connect Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station (MGBS) to Falaknuma. Part of the first phase of Hyderabad Metro project, the work could not be taken up in the past due to various problems.
He mentioned that Musi riverfront development will be taken up as a world-class project.
Revanth Reddy reiterated that he believes that politics should be confined to elections and after elections the focus should be only on development.
“Asaduddin Owaisi and Akbaruddin Owaisi are getting elected again and again. I also tried to defeat them but could not,” said the Chief Minister with a smile.
Asaduddin Owaisi said his party welcomed the mandate given by Telangana people to the Congress.
The MP said Hyderabad and Telangana reached new heights of development because of the peace and communal harmony.
Voicing concern over the growing hatred and disharmony in different parts of the country, he called for united efforts to defeat fascist forces and maintain brotherhood in the state.
The Chief Minister mentioned that he ordered release of Rs.200 crore for road development works in the old city after a request made by the Hyderabad MP.
He agreed to the suggestion of Asaduddin Owaisi to shift Chanchalguda Central Jail from the old city and use the land for building KG to PG complex.
He also promised that a bridge would be built across Mir Alam Tank at a cost of Rs.366 crore.
The Chief Minister stated that since municipal administration, urban development and minority welfare portfolios are with him, required funds can be released on time for the projects.
