JIH President strongly condemns reported death sentences for Muslim Brotherhood leaders in Egypt

New Delhi, March 12: The President of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Syed Sadatullah Husaini has strongly condemned the reported recent decision by an Egyptian court to sentence the General Leader of the Muslim Brotherhood, Muhammad Badi, and seven other leaders to death.

In a statement, Syed Sadatullah Husaini said, “I extend heartfelt prayers for the steadfastness of the leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood. Jamaat-e-Islami Hind and the Muslim community of India stand in solidarity with them during this challenging time. The Muslim Brotherhood is a popular movement in Egypt, unjustly targeted since the removal of the government of Mohammed Morsi.

“The decision to sentence its leaders to death is a consequence of their unwavering support for the Palestinian cause. The leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood are being punished not only for their commitment to justice and democracy but also because they pose an obstacle to the interests of global imperialist powers, in particular America and Israel in the region. Even today, the leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood face trials and tribulations because of the underlying fear of colonial powers towards the forces representing the democratic rights and aspirations of the people in the region.”

The JIH President averred, “We call upon the international community, human rights organizations and advocates of justice to condemn these unjust verdicts. We urge collective efforts to raise awareness about the persecution faced by the Muslim Brotherhood leaders and to strive for their release.

“Jamaat-e-Islami remains committed to promoting justice, democracy, and the protection of human rights. We will continue to stand with the oppressed and voice our concerns against any unjust actions that threaten the principles of justice and freedom.”

It is reported in a section of media that the Egyptian court has sentenced to death prominent figures of the Muslim Brotherhood, including Muhammad Badi, Mahmoud Izzat, Muhammad Al-Baltaji, Omarzaki, Osama Yassin, Safwat Hijazi, Asim Abdul Majid, and Muhammad Abdul Maqsood.
