Unemployment Remains Central Issue in Lok Sabha Polls Despite PM’s Attempts to Shift Focus: Congress

– Ayesha Sultana

New Delhi, March 28: In the lead-up to the highly anticipated Lok Sabha elections, the Congress party has emphatically declared that unemployment will stand as the defining issue despite Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s efforts to shift focus. In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Congress underscored the severity of the unemployment crisis, labeling it as a “ticking bomb” that threatens the nation’s economic and social fabric.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, flanked by party stalwarts Sonia Gandhi and KC Venugopal, articulated the party’s stance during a crucial ‘Central Election Committee (CEC) meeting’ held here Wednesday. Kharge lambasted the Modi government, alleging that it had failed to address the escalating unemployment rates, thereby exacerbating the plight of the nation’s youth.

Kharge further contended that despite Prime Minister Modi’s promises of creating 20 crore jobs within a decade, his administration had, in fact, presided over the loss of 12 crore jobs for the country’s youth. This stark disparity between rhetoric and reality, according to Congress, underscores the urgent need for a comprehensive strategy to tackle unemployment head-on.

In its bid to confront this pressing issue, Congress asserted that it would unveil a concrete plan to combat unemployment in its forthcoming poll manifesto. The party’s commitment to addressing the unemployment crisis reflects its recognition of the issue’s gravity and its determination to offer viable solutions to the electorate.

The Congress’s declaration comes amidst a backdrop of heightened political fervor as parties gear up for the Lok Sabha elections. With the specter of joblessness looming large, the electorate’s concerns are poised to play a pivotal role in shaping the electoral landscape.

As the election campaign intensifies, the battlelines are drawn, with the Congress positioning itself as the torchbearer in the fight against unemployment. With the nation’s economic future at stake, the forthcoming elections are poised to be a referendum on the incumbent government’s handling of the unemployment crisis and a test of Congress’s proposed remedies.
