Hafiz Naeemur Rehman elected Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Ameer

5 April 2024

Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan (JIP) has named Hafiz Naeemur Rehman as its new Ameer. He will succeed Sirajul Haq, who stepped down after General Elections, multiple reports said.

JIP secured no seats in the National Assembly and got only two seats in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Assembly.

Naeem, who won the Member Provincial Assembly seat in the recently concluded polls, relinquished his PS-129 seat after alleged rigging.

“Worst rigging was made in recent elections,” he had said, voicing his party’s reservations over the results, which, he claimed, were marred by manipulation and unfair allocation of seats.

Expressing concerns over the integrity of the electoral process, Naeemur Rehman, the sixth Ameer of JIP, called upon the Election Commission of Pakistan to release results as per Form-45, urging for transparency and fairness. His principled stance was not just a political maneuver but a demonstration of moral courage and commitment to democratic values, said Jasarat.

“We don’t want a seat in charity. We want our right,” he declared emphatically, underscoring his belief in upholding the democratic rights of the people of Karachi. Despite facing defeat, he remained resolute, vowing to continue the fight for justice and fairness through peaceful means.

Earlier, Sirajul Haq stepped down from his post after the party’s below-par show in the elections.
