BJP tries to consolidate in Telangana by raising emotive issues

Hyderabad, April 20: The BJP is looking to increase its Lok Sabha tally in Telangana by raking up issues which have potential to polarise voters on communal lines. From Ram temple to Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and from Uniform Civil Code (UCC) to ‘Ram Rajya’, its leaders are going all out for polarization.

Party’s central leaders are not only boasting their ‘achievement’ of building Ram temple in Ayodhya and implementing CAA but are making their intentions clear to bring in UCC.

Going a step further, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said India is heading for Ram Rajya. He stated that construction of Ram temple at Ayodhya is a clear indication that Ram Rajya is going to be established in the country.

The senior BJP leader was addressing a public meeting in Secunderabad on the occasion of Union Minister for tourism and culture and Telangana BJP president G. Kishan Reddy filing his nomination for Secunderabad Lok Sabha constituency.

Secunderabad was one of the four Lok Sabha seats won by the BJP in 2019. The state has 17 Lok Sabha seats and this time the BJP has set a target of winning 12 seats.

The saffron party is upbeat after increasing its tally in 119-member state Assembly to eight in the polls held in November 2023. The party had won one Assembly seat in 2018.

With Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) losing power after ruling Telangana for 10 years and several of its senior leaders leaving the party, BJP believes it has a good chance of consolidating itself in Telangana.

Kishan Reddy has claimed that the May 13 election will see a direct fight between BJP and Congress. The ruling party is facing tough times after failing to implement six guarantees in 100 days. The Congress had made these guarantees, comprising 13 promises, in the Assembly elections and assured people that if voted to power, it will implement them in 100 days.

During the last four months, the Congress rolled out five schemes but barring free travel for women in TSRTC buses, it failed to implement the schemes.

The BJP leaders are not only going aggressive to target Congress on the failure to implement guarantees but also trying to cash in on the emotive issues. They are raising issues like four percent reservation for Muslims and the state government officially not celebrating September 17 as Hyderabad Liberation Day.

The BJP, in its manifesto for Assembly elections, had promised to scrap Muslim reservation and to officially celebrate September 17 as Hyderabad Liberation Day.

Rajnath Singh claimed that BJP implements whatever it promises. “In 2014 we had said that if we come to power no force on earth can stop construction of Ram temple in Ayodhya and we have done it,” he said, “This time we have declared in the manifesto that if we form the government again, we will bring in uniform civil code.”

He also alleged that misapprehensions were being created among minorities about the CAA. He assured them that no one will lose citizenship because of CAA.
