Akbaruddin Owaisi Counters PM Modi’s Remarks on Muslims with Assertion of National Identity

27 Apr. 24: In response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent remarks regarding “infiltrators,” Akbaruddin Owaisi, the AIMIM leader and brother of Asaduddin Owaisi, delivered a powerful rebuttal, reaffirming the integral role of Muslims in Indian society. Speaking at a public meeting in Hyderabad, Telangana, Owaisi challenged the notion that Muslims are outsiders, emphasizing their deep-rooted connection to the nation.

Owaisi began by questioning the stereotype that Muslims are characterized by large families and infiltration. He cited examples of prominent Indian leaders, including Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Yogi Adityanath, Amit Shah, and Narendra Modi, all hailing from families with multiple siblings. Atal Bihari Vajpayee and his siblings numbered seven, while Yogi Adityanath, Amit Shah, and Narendra Modi each came from families of seven and six siblings respectively. By highlighting these figures, Owaisi sought to debunk the misconception surrounding Muslim demographics and their commitment to the nation.

Drawing attention to India’s rich cultural heritage, Owaisi emphasized the significant contributions of Muslims to iconic landmarks such as the Taj Mahal, Qutub Minar, Red Fort, Jama Masjid, and Char Minar. He underscored that Muslims have played an instrumental role in shaping the country’s cultural fabric, thereby rejecting any narrative that portrays them as outsiders or infiltrators.

In his impassioned address, Owaisi asserted, “We are part of this nation, not outsiders. This nation is ours and will be ours.” By reaffirming Muslims’ rightful place within Indian society, he aimed to counter the divisive rhetoric and foster a sense of inclusivity and unity.

Owaisi’s response comes amidst heightened political discourse surrounding issues of identity and citizenship, particularly in the context of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC). His impassioned defense of Muslim identity and contribution serves as a poignant reminder of the diversity and unity that define India’s social fabric.

As the nation grapples with complex challenges of communal harmony and inclusive governance, Owaisi’s words resonate as a call for dialogue, understanding, and collective action towards a more inclusive and equitable future for all citizens.
