New Delhi: Dr. Javed Jamil’s new book, A Systematic Study of the Holy Quran, was unveiled in a program held by the India Islamic Cultural Centre (IICC) in collaboration with All India Muslim Development Council and Yenepoya University, Mangaluru, at the IICC here Sunday.
Introducing the book, Dr. Jamil, who holds a Chair in Islamic Studies and Research at Yenepoya University, highlighted the Quran as “not an ordinary work of an ordinary mortal but a Singular, Supreme and Majestic Work of a Singular, Supreme and Majestic Author – God, the Creator, and the Lord of the Multi-World.”
He emphasized the profound nature of the Quran, suggesting that humanity may only ever partially grasp its divine messages and the wonders it holds for understanding and guiding life. He noted that his book is a humble attempt to explore and interpret the messages and systems presented in the Quran, particularly their relevance in today’s world. Through a unique classification of verses, Dr. Jamil aims to demonstrate the Quran’s depth and relevance as the final testament from God – a text to be studied, lived by, and applied to all aspects of human life.
Dr. Jamil also discussed how the Quran’s “constitution” encompasses not only rights and duties but also Constitutional prohibitions, providing a complete framework for ethical living.
Syed Sadatullah Husaini, President of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, hailed Dr. Jamil’s work as essential, especially in the face of rising Islamophobia. He noted the book’s multi-perspective approach – scientific, legal, social, political, economic – and its relevance to today’s youth as a profound introduction to the Quran as a guiding light for all ages.
Maulana Faisal Rahmani, Ameer-e-Shariat of Bihar, Jharkhand, Orissa, and West Bengal, spoke about the book’s insights into various aspects of Kalaam-e-Ilahi, shedding light on the chapter structure and unique perspectives within.
Dr. Zafarul Islam Khan, former Chairman of Delhi Minorities Commission, emphasised the importance of analytical studies of the Quran at universities in India and worldwide. He proposed integrating Applied Islamics into Islamic Studies curricula, calling the book a valuable resource for Muslims and non-Muslims alike seeking answers on life’s purpose and humanity’s mission on earth.
Former Chief Election Commissioner S.Y. Qureshi referenced his own work, The Population Myth: Islam, Family Planning, and Politics, and remarked on the importance of ongoing Quranic studies, expressing his wish to write on Islam and the environment in the future.
- Rahman Khan, former Union Minister, recommended Dr. Jamil’s work as essential reading, describing it as a resource for analytical thought and guidance.
Presiding over the event, former Minister Salman Khurshid emphasised the book’s relevance today, as it challenges modern systems while unapologetically defending Islamic positions.
The programme, moderated by Prof. Khalid Mubashshir, reflected a broad consensus on the significance of Dr. Jamil’s work as a guiding resource in understanding and implementing the Quran’s teachings.
