Aadhaar cards deactivated before bringing NRC, alleges Mamata Banerjee

Kolkata, Feb. 20: Reiterating that she won’t allow NRC to be implemented in Bengal, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee alleged that the Union Government wants to implement NRC through NPR as people’s Aadhaar cards are being deactivated in many districts of Bengal.

Mamata Banerjee on Monday claimed that the BJP-led central government was deactivating the Aadhaar cards of SC, ST and minority community people ahead of the Lok Sabha elections as a precursor to bring in NRC.

Speaking to reporters at the state secretariat, Mamata said that she would write to Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the matter. She has made a scathing attack on the Modi government, saying, “We are ready to give our blood but won’t let any person from Bengal go out.”

She assured the people that she would give a new option of Aadhaar card to Bengal. “We will give a separate card to those whose names are being struck off. We have prepared a portal named ‘Aadhaar Grievance Portal of West Bengal Government.’ Those whose Aadhaar cards have been deactivated should inform us as soon as possible so that they continue to enjoy their democratic, social and economic rights.”
