AAP MPs Stage Powerful Protest Inside Parliament Against BJP’s Demolition of Jhuggis in Delhi

– Abdul Bari Masoud
New Delhi: AAP MP Sanjay Singh led a strong protest inside Parliament against the BJP’s demolition of jhuggis in Delhi. Samajwadi Party MPs joined the demonstration, slamming the BJP for betraying the poor it once wooed with promises and photo-ops.
Sanjay Singh said, “PM Modi gave out cards with the slogan ‘Jahan Jhuggi, Wahan Makaan’. BJP leaders once spent nights in jhuggis and ate with the poor. Now, those same leaders are sending bulldozers to destroy their homes.”
He accused the BJP of targeting Bihari migrants and warned, “Today BJP is chasing Biharis out of Delhi. In the elections, Biharis will chase BJP out of Bihar.”
The protest took place on Thursday inside Parliament. Sanjay Singh, a Rajya Sabha MP, said, “Jhuggis, homes, and shops of people from UP, Bihar, and Purvanchal are being demolished. Bulldozers are tearing down homes and livelihoods.”
He added, “We registered our protest in Parliament. I submitted a notice under Rule 267. We demand that these demolitions stop immediately and the issue be discussed in the House.”
Singh thanked Samajwadi Party MPs from UP and Bihar for standing in solidarity. He said, “AAP will keep fighting for the poor, for jhuggi dwellers, and for our Purvanchali brothers. Those evicting Biharis from Delhi will be evicted from Bihar by the people.”
Attacking BJP, Singh said, “BJP claims they gave proper notice before demolition. That’s a lie. Everyone remembers PM Modi promising houses where jhuggis exist. BJP leaders once stayed in jhuggis and ate food offered by the poor. Now, they are demolishing the same homes.”
He recited a line: “Log toot jaate hain ek ghar banane mein, aur tum taras nahi khaate bastiyan mitane mein” (People break themselves building a home, and you show no pity in destroying entire settlements). He said, “This line fits BJP. They are anti-poor, anti-jhuggi, anti-UP, anti-Bihar, and anti-Purvanchal.”
Sanjay Singh also shared videos and photos of the protest inside Parliament. He said, “Samajwadi Party MPs supported us, and I thank them.”
Protesters raised slogans like:
“Modi ji, have some shame! BJP, have some shame! Rekha Gupta, have some shame!
Stop evicting Purvanchalis! Stop the bulldozers!”
These chants reflected the anger against the demolition drive targeting Delhi’s poor and marginalized.
