New Delhi: The Alliance for Economic and Educational Development of the Underprivileged (AEEDU) held its AGM and Stakeholders’ Meet at India International Centre here Sunday. The event aimed to further its mission of empowering underprivileged communities through education, research, skill development, and entrepreneurship.
Delivering the inaugural address, S.Y. Quraishi, Former Chief Election Commissioner and President of AEEDU, reflected on the organisation’s achievements and laid out its future goals. He underscored AEEDU’s vital role in providing educational and skill-building opportunities while acknowledging the financial constraints faced by the organisation. He highlighted AEEDU’s commitment to operating study centres nationwide despite significant challenges.
Quraishi also shared promising developments, including donations of 12 laptops from the Dawoodi Bohra community, pledges of support from Rotary Club, and an offer of 100 computers and laptops from IILM University. Additionally, a ₹15 lakh corpus, contributed by the Dawoodi Bohra community, was announced. Quraishi appealed to stakeholders to help meet AEEDU’s monthly operational costs of ₹4 lakhs.
Prof. B.S. Butola, AEEDU’s Research In-Charge, unveiled a research report highlighting the organisation’s impact and outlining future strategies. He noted the lack of comprehensive data, including census information, as a challenge affecting research outcomes. Prof. Asiya Chaudhary from AMU introduced an Entrepreneurship Module titled “BEST,” designed to promote self-reliance among stakeholders and unemployed youth.
The AGM also authorised the Founder Members to reconstitute the Governing Body, ensuring continuity and stability within the organisation. Members unanimously approved the reappointment of AEEDU’s auditors.
Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah commended AEEDU’s efforts and requested the acting president to continue in his role. Former MP Shahid Siddiqui emphasised the need to realign AEEDU’s activities to strengthen its position as a key facilitator among non-profits. CEO Syed Mahmood Akhter presented visuals demonstrating the positive impact of AEEDU’s Common Study Centres on the education of underprivileged children.
Several speakers, including Mufaddal Shakir, praised AEEDU’s initiatives and extended their support. Dr. Raihan Akhtar shared the success of a ₹10 crore project in Jaunpur, while Samar Alam discussed the establishment of two new Common Study Centres under AEEDU’s aegis. Other contributors, such as Asif Habib, Himanshu Gupta, Huma Khan, Ameer Ahmad, and Dr. Chandra Shekhar Pran, offered their insights. Mohd. Amaan Hussain and Muskan highlighted progress made at the Common Study Centres.
