Afghanistan: Expansion Work Begins on $7 Million Turgundi Port Project

Herat: Authorities have launched a $7 million expansion project at Turgundi Port in Herat province to boost Afghanistan’s trade capacity, the Governor’s Office announced this week, reported The Kabul Times.

Herat Governor Mawlana Noor Ahmad Islamjar said the project is part of dozens of ongoing development initiatives in the province and is expected to bring “a major economic transformation” once completed.

“Dozens of development projects are currently underway in the province, and the Turgundi expansion project will bring a major economic transformation once completed,” he added.

According to Deputy Minister of Public Works Mawlavi Mohammad Ishaq Sahibzada, the expansion will cover 50 acres and is scheduled for completion within a year. Plans include new warehouses and modern facilities aimed at streamlining import and export operations.

Situated on the Afghanistan-Turkmenistan border, Turgundi Port serves as a vital gateway for trade, making the project a significant step in strengthening the country’s economic infrastructure.
