Tonk (Rajasthan), Feb. 9: On Friday, a memorandum was submitted to the District Collector of Tonk on behalf of AIMIM and Awam-e-Tonk demanding the release of Muslim scholar Mufti Salman Azhari and withdrawal of the case registered against him.
AIMIM state general secretary Advocate Kashif Zuberi said a memorandum has been given to the district collector demanding the withdrawal of the fabricated case registered against Mufti Salman Azhari and his release from illegal arrest.
The memorandum states that Mufti Salman Azhari is a religious leader of Islam, who is highly respected by the Muslim community and followers of other religions all over the world, including India. His sermons are listened to with great respect. Mufti Azhari had given a speech at a Muslim community event in Junagadh on January 31. Taking this sermon as the basis, the police took cognizance of the matter and registered an FIR against him in Junagadh and Kutch. He was arrested by the ATS Gujarat Police for a sermon that was not controversial in any way. This arrest was made only under pressure from some people and was made controversial.
Kashif Zuberi said this arrest is illegal, baseless and a violation of fundamental rights. It is necessary for a just and harmonious environment that both cases be dismissed immediately.
He said that AIMIM Rajasthan and Awam-e-Tonk have submitted this memorandum to the President of India and requested that strict legal action be taken against the anti-social elements and the cases registered against Mufti Azhari be dealt with in a just manner and both the cases be closed so that fundamental rights can be protected.
Those who submitted the memorandum included Kashif Zuberi, Abdullah Mujahid, Mehfooz Mian, Fardeen, Isran, Asif, Raheel, Noor, Haider, Mizan, Jabir, Naeem, Kamin, Sarfaraz, etc.
Mufti Azhari is a Sunni Islamic scholar and motivational speaker from India. He was arrested on February 2, in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, for allegedly making inflammatory speeches against Hindus.
