AIMIM Delegation Protests Police Role in Jodhpur Communal Incident, Demands Impartial Inquiry

– Raheem Khan

Jodhpur, June 26: In response to the recent communal violence in Sursagar, Jodhpur, a delegation from the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) led by State General Secretary Advocate Kashif Zuberi visited the victims to gather details about the incident.

The delegation also approached the Jodhpur Collector’s Office to meet with administrative officials, voicing their protest against the perceived partiality of the police, seeking compensation for victims, and denouncing the administration’s one-sided actions.

The delegation submitted a memorandum to the Jodhpur District Collector, calling for an impartial investigation into the communal violence that occurred on June 21, 2024. They demanded the release of innocent individuals, compensation for the victims’ property losses, and a thorough examination of the police’s role in the violence.

Advocate Kashif Zuberi emphasized that Jodhpur is a city known for its harmonious coexistence of diverse communities. However, he warned that the city’s unity is being undermined by certain anti-social elements. He accused these elements of creating divisions among specific communities through manipulative politics, thereby disturbing the city’s peace over minor issues.

Zuberi detailed that on the night of June 21, 2024, individuals in the Sursagar area attempted to disrupt Jodhpur’s peace and instill fear. He claimed that videos circulating on social media and news channels clearly show the police failing to act impartially. According to Zuberi, the videos depict the police protecting anti-social elements who were pelting stones and committing arson against a particular community, rather than intervening to stop and arrest them. He criticized the police for not fulfilling their duty to maintain peace and arrest perpetrators, suggesting that their biased actions endanger democracy.

Zuberi called on the administration to ensure a thorough investigation by an honest senior police officer and to take action against those responsible for the violence. He urged the release of individuals who were unjustly arrested without solid evidence and insisted that the government should compensate all those who suffered financial and physical losses, regardless of their community. He demanded the strictest action against all culprits to uphold justice and maintain peace in Jodhpur.
