Hyderabad: Tension gripped Asifnagar on Wednesday evening, May 14, after AIMIM MLA from Nampally, Mohd Majid Hussain, staged a protest in front of a local liquor shop, demanding its immediate and permanent closure, reported the Siasat.
The protest was triggered by the suspicious death of a daily wage worker at Sri Chandra Wines three days ago. Since the incident, local residents have expressed anger and demanded the liquor shop be shut down, citing recurring disturbances and social issues in the locality.
Majid Hussain, accompanied by residents, arrived at the liquor shop and sat on a dharna, stating that the presence of the wine store was causing serious problems for the community. He urged the authorities to respect public sentiment and take action.
The situation grew tense, prompting police intervention. Officers tried to convince the MLA to disperse, fearing the protest could escalate into a law-and-order issue. Eventually, the police closed the liquor outlet, after which Majid Hussain left, insisting that it should not be reopened.
The incident sparked discussions about the role of liquor outlets in public safety and community welfare.
