AIMIM to Contest 32 Bihar Seats, Challenges Grand Alliance in Seemanchal

Patna: The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has announced its decision to contest 32 seats in the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections. The party’s focus will be on the Seemanchal region, which has a large Muslim population and has long been central to AIMIM’s political presence in the state.

AIMIM’s move is viewed as a direct challenge to the Grand Alliance led by the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), along with the Congress and Left parties. Party chief Asaduddin Owaisi stated that AIMIM aims to give voice to the marginalized sections of society. He accused the Grand Alliance of neglecting Seemanchal’s needs and failing to bring justice or development to the region.

In the 2020 Bihar Assembly elections, AIMIM had won five seats, all from Seemanchal. However, four of its legislators later joined the RJD, leaving the party with a single seat in the Assembly. Despite the setback, AIMIM remains confident about regaining lost ground by appealing directly to local voters.

The party’s strategy rests on growing dissatisfaction with mainstream parties. It hopes to consolidate Muslim votes by offering an alternative political path. Analysts say AIMIM’s entry into 32 constituencies could alter the traditional voting patterns in Seemanchal and influence the overall outcome for the Grand Alliance.
