AIMIM’s Seemanchal Gains Reshape Bihar’s Minority Vote

Patna: The All India Majlis e Ittehadul Muslimeen revived its influence in Bihar’s Seemanchal region in the 2025 Assembly election. The party’s focused campaign shaped outcomes in Muslim populated constituencies and weakened the Mahagathbandhan’s ability to win seats in its traditional strongholds.

AIMIM fielded 25 candidates and concentrated its efforts in Seemanchal. Muslims form a large share of the electorate in this region. The party won or led in six seats. These victories came from nine constituencies where Muslims formed more than 40 percent of the population. The Congress secured one seat in this category. The RJD and CPI ML Liberation failed to win in these Muslim majority areas.

The party’s presence changed outcomes even where it did not win. AIMIM split anti NDA votes in Pranpur, which helped the BJP take the lead. A similar pattern was seen in Balarampur, where the Lok Janshakti Party Ram Vilas gained from a divided opposition vote. AIMIM secured more than 15 percent vote share in nine seats and between 5 and 15 percent in eight seats. These numbers did not always give the party a win. They weakened the Mahagathbandhan’s candidates in close contests.

In seats with a Muslim population between 25 and 40 percent, the NDA dominated. It won 12 out of 13 seats in this category. The BJP won six seats, JD U won five and LJP RV won one. The RJD won the only seat for the Mahagathbandhan in these mixed areas.

AIMIM’s gains point to diversity within Muslim communities in Bihar. The party raised concerns about declining minority representation among secular parties and argued that the Mahagathbandhan ignored minority expectations. This message found support in Seemanchal, where AIMIM has built its presence since 2020.
