AIMPBL Welcomes Tamil Nadu’s Stand on Wakf Board Decision

New Delhi: The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPBL) has hailed the Tamil Nadu
government’s decision to defer the formation of the state Waqf Board until the Supreme Court delivers its final verdict on the controversial Waqf Amendment Act, 2025.

In a statement, Board spokesperson Qasim Rasool Ilyas described the move by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s government as “appropriate, timely and bold.” He said the decision not only respected the sentiments of the Muslim community but also upheld democratic and constitutional values.

Tamil Nadu’s Minister for Minority Affairs, S.M. Naseer, reiterated that the state has consistently opposed the Wakf Amendment Act and has already challenged it before the apex court. He further clarified that the functioning of the current state Wakf Board will continue even after the expiry of its term, until the legal process reaches its conclusion.

The AIMPBL has also urged other state governments to follow Tamil Nadu’s example and adopt a similar approach, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding minority rights and ensuring due process of law. The Board’s statement reflects the wider concerns within the Muslim community over the proposed amendments, which many fear could dilute the autonomy of Waqf institutions across the country.

By postponing the formation of a new board, Tamil Nadu has sent a strong signal of support to both constitutional safeguards and minority communities awaiting clarity from the judiciary.
