AIMPLB Condemns Delhi Government for Cancelling Permission of November 16 Rally at Ramlila Maidan

The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has strongly condemned the Delhi Government and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi for abruptly cancelling permission for its proposed public meeting scheduled on November 16, 2025, at Ramlila Maidan.

According to an official statement, the permission—granted nearly three months ago—was withdrawn just eight days before the event, citing the ground’s unavailability for a government programme. The Board called the move “irresponsible, unethical, and undemocratic,” stating that such actions violate both legal and moral principles.

Dr. S. Q. R. Ilyas, AIMPLB spokesperson, expressed deep disappointment over the sudden revocation, saying, “When the Municipal Corporation had already approved the event three months ago, its withdrawal only a week before the programme is a grave injustice. This is a denial of our constitutional and democratic rights.” He added that authorities could have postponed their own event or offered an alternative venue.

The rally was planned to raise awareness about the Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2025, which the Board has been actively opposing. Dr. Ilyas said thousands of participants from Delhi, Western Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Bihar had made travel and accommodation arrangements, resulting in financial losses and widespread frustration after the cancellation.

The AIMPLB alleged that the government’s decision reflects its “fear and frustration” over the growing support for the Board’s campaign. “Peaceful protest and criticism of government policies are our fundamental rights,” Dr. Ilyas asserted.

While the November 16 rally stands postponed, the AIMPLB confirmed it will be rescheduled in Delhi after Ramadan. “The Board will not bow down before such cowardly tactics,” Dr. Ilyas stated, urging the community to stay united and continue their peaceful movement.

The statement was issued by Dr. Waqaruddin Al-Layl, Office Secretary, AIMPLB, from Okhla Village, New Delhi.
