New Delhi: The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has announced the postponement of the Bharat Bandh that was earlier scheduled for October 3 against the Waqf Amendment Act. The decision came after an emergency meeting of the Board’s office bearers chaired by President Maulana Khalid Saifullah Rahmani.
In its statement, the Board said the bandh was deferred in view of upcoming religious festivals being celebrated in several states on the same date. “After a detailed review of the situation, it was unanimously decided to postpone the Bharat Bandh scheduled for October 3,” the statement noted.
The AIMPLB clarified that the postponement does not dilute its opposition to the Waqf Amendment Act. All protest programmes under the ongoing Save Waqf Campaign will continue as planned. General Secretary Maulana Fazlur Rahim Mujaddidi and spokesperson Dr. S.Q.R. Ilyas stressed that the campaign would not lose momentum. They confirmed that new dates for the Bharat Bandh will be announced soon.
The Board reiterated its stance that the Waqf Amendment Act undermines the independence of Waqf institutions and erodes constitutional protections guaranteed to minorities. It argued that the amendments will harm the management of Waqf properties and weaken the rights of the community.
The AIMPLB concluded by assuring that while it respects the religious sentiments of fellow citizens during festivals, the nationwide movement against the Act will continue with determination and persistence.
