AIMPLB Urges Extension As Waqf Property Upload Deadline Nears

New Delhi: The All India Muslim Personal Law Board urged the minority affairs ministry to extend the deadline for uploading Waqf property details on the UMEED central portal. The deadline ends on Friday midnight. The appeal follows a surge in last minute attempts after the Supreme Court refused to grant more time on Monday.

Only a little over 3.42 lakh uploads were initiated till Wednesday evening. Uploads slowed across several regions as mutawallis faced repeated technical issues. AIMPLB spokesperson SQR Ilyas said the portal slowed down, crashed and stopped during peak hours. He stated that the volume of pending records made timely completion impossible.

In a formal letter sent through email and post, AIMPLB general secretary Maulana Muhammad Fazlur Rahim Mujaddidi said the upload window was too short due to slow portal speed and other technical problems. He noted that the board held workshops and set up help desks across India, yet the workload remained high.

Under the Waqf Amendment Act, those who miss the deadline will need to approach the Waqf tribunal. The tribunal will decide whether reasons for delay are acceptable for an extension of up to six months.

Officials from the minority affairs ministry said training sessions and meetings were completed with state boards, including an online session on Tuesday. They said technical staff were deployed to meet the rush. One official noted that the portal processed over one lakh uploads in the past 100 hours, and added that the current load stemmed from late action rather than technical failure.

The ministry has not yet responded to AIMPLB’s request for an urgent meeting.
