AIMPLB Slams Launch of ‘Waqf UMEED Portal’, Calls It Illegal and Contempt of Court

New Delhi : The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has strongly opposed the central government’s decision to launch the ‘Waqf UMEED Portal’ on June 6, terming it illegal and an act of contempt of court.
In a press statement issued on Tuesday, Maulana Khalid Saifullah Rahmani, President of AIMPLB, stated that the newly introduced “Waqf Act 2025,” under which the portal is being launched, is currently under review by the Supreme Court of India. He added that the law has already been rejected by all major Muslim organizations.
According to Maulana Rahmani, not just Muslim bodies but also opposition parties, human rights groups, as well as leaders from Sikh, Christian, and other minority communities have declared the law unacceptable.
“Despite widespread rejection, the government is proceeding with the portal and making registration of waqf properties mandatory. This action is entirely illegal and clearly amounts to contempt of the court,” the statement said.
AIMPLB pointed out that the registration process is based on a controversial law which has been legally challenged for being unconstitutional. “The Board strongly condemns this move and appeals to the Muslim community and state waqf boards not to register waqf properties on the portal until the Supreme Court delivers its verdict,” said Maulana Rahmani.
He also urged mutawallis (waqf caretakers) to submit memorandums to local authorities demanding a halt to any such action until the legal dispute is resolved. AIMPLB confirmed that it would soon approach the court against this step by the government.
The statement was released by Dr. Waqar Uddin Latifi, Office Secretary, AIMPLB.
