New Delhi: July 15: In a meeting held in the national capital, All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) adopted several resolutions addressing issues such as the recent Supreme Court judgment on maintenance, the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), waqf properties, mob lynching, the Places of Worship Act, and Palestine. The meeting was chaired by AIMPLB President Maulana Khalid Saifullah Rahmani.
Dr. S.Q.R. Ilyas, spokesperson for AIMPLB, informed the media that the Board unanimously opposed the Supreme Court’s recent judgment on the maintenance of divorced Muslim women, stating it contradicts Islamic law (Shari’ah). Ilyas argued that the ruling, although intended to protect women’s interests, would likely exacerbate their difficulties by discouraging men from initiating divorce due to fear of maintenance obligations.
Regarding the UCC, the Board asserted that implementing such a code in a multi-religious country like India is impractical and against the constitutional rights of minorities. AIMPLB plans to challenge the UCC’s implementation in Uttarakhand, citing it as unnecessary and unconstitutional.
The Board also addressed the issue of waqf properties, demanding that illegal occupants pay market rent and that the revenue be used for the intended purposes of the waqf. They emphasized the importance of preserving waqf properties for the benefit of the Muslim community.
In response to ongoing mob lynching incidents, the Board criticized the government’s failure to protect marginalized communities, warning that continued lawlessness could lead to national instability and damage India’s reputation.
The Board reiterated its stance on the Places of Worship Act, urging the Supreme Court to uphold the Act’s provisions and prevent new disputes related to religious sites. They also called for a consistent application of the law in ongoing cases like those in Mathura and Kashi.
On international issues, the AIMPLB reaffirmed India’s historical support for Palestine, urging the government to cease military aid to Israel and maintain its principled stand on the Palestinian struggle for independence.
The meeting saw participation from notable personalities, including Vice Presidents Maulana Arshad Madani, Syed Sadatullah Husaini, Maulana Mohammad Ali Naqvi, and other board members, along with MP Asaduddin Owaisi and other prominent figures from across the country.
