New Delhi: The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has announced a one-day workshop in Delhi on September 29 to train volunteers in completing documentation of Waqf properties. The move comes after growing concerns following the government’s directive to register Waqf assets on the UMID portal under the recently amended Waqf Act.
The AIMPLB stated that the amendment is under legal challenge and has already been contested in court. The Board has advised mutawallis not to register their properties on the portal until a judicial verdict is delivered. At the same time, it stressed the need for all caretakers of Waqf properties to ensure that their records are complete and accurate.
According to official requirements, details sought for registration include property boundaries, usage, ownership records, maps, income statements, taxes, and pending litigation. The AIMPLB pointed out that many mosques, eidgahs, dargahs, and graveyards either lack proper documents or hold incomplete records, making them vulnerable to disputes and encroachment.
The upcoming Delhi workshop will involve legal experts and trainers who will guide participants on how to compile and organize property documents. States have been asked to nominate at least five and up to ten participants, preferably lawyers and those experienced in Waqf matters, by September 5. The Board will bear accommodation expenses in Delhi while travel costs will be met by state delegations.
The AIMPLB also encouraged states to hold similar workshops at regional and district levels after the central program.
