New Delhi: The All India Muslim Personal Law Board has condemned the joint US Israel attack on Iran and called for urgent global intervention. The board urged the United Nations, the international community, and India to press for an immediate ceasefire to prevent a wider war in the region.
In a media statement, board spokesperson Dr. SQR Ilyas said negotiations between Iran and the United States over Iran’s nuclear programme had made progress. He cited Oman’s Foreign Minister Badr Al Busaidi, who mediated the talks, and stated Iran had agreed to almost all US conditions. He said the sudden US decision to end negotiations, followed by a joint strike with Israel, showed the talks lacked sincerity.
Dr. Ilyas expressed grief over the martyrdom of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Hosseini Khamenei. He described the killing of a sovereign country’s top leader during wartime and open calls for regime change as a violation of international law and the UN Charter.
The board said the conflict has spread across the Middle East. Iran has targeted US embassies and military assets in Gulf states. US and Israeli forces have struck military sites as well as schools and hospitals in Iran. European powers support the US and Israel, while Russia and China back Iran.
Dr. Ilyas warned that without swift diplomatic action, the conflict risks expanding into a global war. He said a prolonged war would deepen the humanitarian crisis and harm the global economy, with developing nations facing the heaviest burden. He added that India should have played a mediatory role and expressed concern over the absence of an official condolence message on Ayatollah Khamenei’s death.
