AIUT Congress, Other bodies demand Immediate Removal of Illegal possession of Tibbiya College

– Shakilur Rahman

New Delhi, Jan. 3: In a joint meeting, the participants, including All India Unani Tibbi Congress, All India Unani Tibbi Conference and Hakeem Ajmal Khan Memorial Committee expressed surprise that illegal occupation of more than 100 years old heritage ‘Ayurveda and Unani Tibbiya College’ is increasing day by day. The college is situated in Karol Bagh. While its founder, renowned freedom fighter and son of the soil Hakeem Ajmal Khan had reserved this campus exclusively for Ayurveda and Unani Tibbi education.

There is no unauthorized occupation of any college campus in Delhi or outside. It is very shameful that the Tibbiya College, in the heart of the national capital, is being targeted and illegally occupied with the connivance of the government.

The participants said two major institutions of Ayurveda were established within the last two decades, one being AIIMS Ayurveda and National Institute of Ayurveda. But no remarkable step has been taken for Unani medicine. On the contrary, they are keeping greedy and close eyes on Tibbiya College. Therefore, it is demanded that a Deputy Director to represent Unani medicine be appointed in the AYUSH department as soon as possible.

The participants expressed concern over the discontinuation of Delhi Bharatiya Chikatsa Parishad’s (DBCP) operational system for the last seven years and pending works in Delhi Ayurveda and Unani medicine.  The participants of the meeting demanded early election to accelerate pending works.

They further said that to ensure the preservation of Ayurveda and Unani Tibbiya College, it is necessary to upgrade this ‘heritage’ college in the form of a university in memory of Hakeem Ajmal Khan.

The meeting was preceded by a very informative lecture by Dr. Saurabh Kapoor in which he elaborated on disc and spine surgery with modern technology.

Dr. Syed Ahmed Khan (Secretary General, All India Unani Medical Congress) besides Dr. Moqim Ahmed, Dr. Shakeel Ahmed, Dr. Ishrat Kafeel, Dr. Ghiyasuddin Siddiqui and Dr. Mirza Asif Baig etc. made the program successful.
