Unani Doctors from across India participated in the meeting
Prayagraj: The All India Unani Tibbi Congress (Allahabad Unit) successfully organised its annual conference at Shagun Palace here Sunday, under the presidency of Professor Mushtaq Ahmed. The programme’s success was particularly significant as representative Unani doctors from across the country, from Manipur (Imphal) in the northeast to various regions from north to south and east to west, participated in the event.
In his address, Professor Mushtaq Ahmed delivered an encouraging “boosting dose” to the Unani doctors, motivating them by stating that continuous struggle, loyalty to one’s profession, dedication, and fulfilling ethical responsibilities guarantee success. He further emphasised that the centuries-old Unani system of medicine is a valuable heritage, and it is a moral obligation to deliver its benefits to the public.
On this occasion, the Chief Guest, Waqar Ahmad Ansari (Chairman, Lok Adalat, Prayagraj), remarked that the public awareness campaign being conducted by the All India Unani Tibbi Congress needs further acceleration and strength because the promotion of Unani medicine is highly necessary for public welfare.
Distinguished and honoured guests at the event included Professor S.M. Arif Zaidi (Former Dean of Unani, Jamia Hamdard, New Delhi), Dr. Sikandar Hayat Siddiqui (Former Director of Unani, Government of Uttar Pradesh), Irfan Ahmad Ansari (IPS Officer), Professor Nifasat Ali Ansari (Former Principal, State Takmeel-ut-Tib College, Lucknow), Dr. Hussain Ahmad (Former Director of Unani, Government of Rajasthan), and Dr. Mahmood Hasan Siddiqui (Director of Unani, Government of Rajasthan).
Along with well-known community and social thinker Muhammad Khalid Luckhnavi, Dr. Tariq Umar Siddiqui, Dr. Syed Ahmad Khan, Dr. S.M. Ahsan Ejaz Gorakhpuri, Dr. Aqeel Ahmad Azmi, Dr. Shujauddin, Dr. Muhammad Rashid, Dr. Muhammad Aizaz Khan, Dr. Aijaz Ali Qadri, Dr. Muhammad Shujauddin Allahabadi, Dr. Muhammad Nizamuddin, and Dr. Khurshid Alam Allahabadi, also shared their thoughts.
On this occasion, various scholars presented papers related to Unani medicine. Particularly appreciated was the paper titled “Allahabad and Unani Medicine” by Hakim Rashad-ul-Islam Allahabadi, National Secretary of AIUTC Pharmacy Wing.
The programme began with the recitation of the Holy Quran by Dr. Khubaib Ahmad Khan, while Dr. Afroz Talib Khan skilfully conducted the proceedings as the master of ceremonies.
The Public Meeting adopted the following resolutions:
- Uniformity should be established in clinical registration and renewal procedures between NCISM (Government of India) and the Indian Medicine Board, Uttar Pradesh, to protect AYUSH doctors from interference by allopathic CMOs.
- Those who have obtained an M.S. degree in Ayurveda and Unani medicine should be granted full rights to perform surgeries in their respective fields without issuing separate notifications.
- Clear guidelines should be issued by NCISM regarding AYUSH doctors’ authority to administer injections and IV fluids in emergency situations, and their enforcement should be mandatory in every state.
- Under the Central Government’s NHM AYUSH scheme, it must be mandatory to include Unani doctors in medical officer recruitments across all states. A clear notification from the central AYUSH department has been demanded in this regard.
