New Delhi: A delegation from All India Unani Tibbi Congress (AIUTC), led by prominent social activist of Rohini Zone, North-West Delhi, Mr. Anil Sharma, met with the Chief Minister of Delhi, Ms. Rekha Gupta here Friday. The delegation included the Secretary-General of AIUTC, Dr. Syed Ahmed Khan, along with Dr. Shakeel Ahmad Meerthi, Hakim Aftab Alam, Israr Ahmad Ujjaini, and Muhammad Imran Kanauji.
On this occasion, a memorandum highlighting the contributions of the renowned freedom fighter and medical reformer, Maseeh-ul-Mulk Hakim Ajmal Khan, was presented. The delegation demanded that, in recognition of his national services and as a tribute, the Ayurvedic and Unani Tibbia College, established by him in Karol Bagh, New Delhi, be upgraded to a Unani University.
The memorandum said inter alia: In 2014, the Government of India acknowledged the value of traditional systems of medicine by establishing the independent Ministry of AYUSH. For the first time, there was strong political advocacy for the equal promotion of all traditional medical systems, including Unani, alongside allopathic medicine. Against this backdrop, the upgradation of the Tibbia College would not only be a timely and meaningful step but also a national tribute to Hakim Ajmal Khan and the Father of the Nation.
The memorandum maintained that the proposed National University of Unani Medicine would serve as a centre of excellence, research, and innovation in the field, further solidifying Delhi’s role in the advancement of traditional Indian medicine.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta responded positively to the delegation’s request.
