Power Politics Has Replaced Ideology in Maharashtra, Says Akbaruddin Owaisi

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: AIMIM leader Akbaruddin Owaisi accused political parties in Maharashtra of abandoning ideology in pursuit of power, saying Muslims and backward communities remain marginalised despite decades of electoral support to national leaders.

Speaking at a public rally in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar ahead of the January 15 civic body elections, the Telangana MLA criticised both ruling and opposition parties. He said shifting alliances in the state exposed the collapse of ideological politics.

Owaisi pointed to past political realignments involving Shiv Sena, Congress, the Nationalist Congress Party, and the BJP. He said frequent changes of partners showed a focus on power rather than principles such as secularism or Hindutva. According to him, voters were left disillusioned as parties switched sides without accountability.

He said AIMIM raises issues faced by Muslims while also standing with Dalits and backward communities. He stressed equal ownership of the country for all citizens, regardless of religious identity or cultural symbols. Owaisi described himself as both Indian and Muslim and said pride in identity should not lead to exclusion or punishment.

The AIMIM leader alleged continued neglect of Muslim areas by successive governments. He said expectations of development and poverty reduction remained unmet despite long standing political support. According to him, Muslims face high school dropout rates and poor representation across sectors. He also accused governments of denying fair access to education and employment.

Owaisi extended his remarks to regional inequality. He said backwardness affected the entire Marathwada region, including the Maratha community. He urged social groups and activists, including Manoj Jarange, to unite around demands for regional development and social justice.
